Artificial lawns aren’t just for yards; they’re excellent for playgrounds as well. With the development of third generation artificial lawn products and the addition of in-fills, artificial lawn playgrounds became the option of choice for playground applications. These “next generation” artificial lawn playgrounds are often indistinguishable from natural grass and are generally regarded as being as safe to play on as a traditional natural grass surface – perhaps even safer in cold conditions. In fact, the latest iteration of artificial lawn playgrounds, installed with rubber coated sands, have better fall test ratings than natural grass surfaces.[/p]

The newest artificial grass turfs are now used in all weather training facilities, professional sports facilities and school facilities. As an example, artificial turf has replaced natural grass on many of Yale University’s playing fields. The installation of an artificial lawn has solved a number of the problems that come along with natural grass surfaces, most notably overuse. Currently the varsity field hockey, women’s lacrosse, and new soccer/lacrosse stadium all have artificial lawn playing surfaces. These improvements in design, manufacturing, and installation methods led to substantial improvements in the safety and durability of artificial lawn products.

Panjia only uses safe, durable artificial lawn playground grasses made from polypropylene and polyethylene lead free/non-toxic fibers. Artificial lawn playgrounds are beautiful, safe, low maintenance, cost effective alternatives to traditional playground surfacing such as dirt, grass (which typically dies), wood chips (which tend to harbor insects), and more expensive rubber landing areas.

Be sure to consider the following when researching any potential artificial lawn playground area project:

  • What in-fill helps you to achieve your required playground surfacing G-max results?
  • What are the appropriate ADA and fall test ratings requirements for the playground surfacing?

Artificial grass playgrounds are a good solution for homes and businesses that have playgrounds for children and want a safe surface that’s maintenance-free. Areas where children play take quite a beating, just as any high traffic area does. Landscaping in these areas can be tricky and take a lot of maintenance to keep them looking good. Synthetic grass playgrounds make upkeep of playground areas a breeze.

There are number of things that contribute to the breakdown of playground areas. The most high traffic and heavy use spots see the grass damaged and worn. This is the case in high traffic areas of yards, also. In many yards it’s easy to see the footpath most people take as the grass is washed out looking, dry and even missing in places. Artificial grass playgrounds and lawns won’t break down that way.

We’ve all seen playgrounds or yards with swing sets that have slides. How often have you seen a mud puddle or a large spot of dirt or mud at the bottom of the slide? This is from the impact of children coming off the slide onto the ground. That damages the grass and eventually kills it. As the grass dies, there’s nothing to anchor the ground and erosion takes place, leaving an indent and even sometimes a hole. This becomes a mud spot in wet weather.

With artificial grass playgrounds, there’s no need to worry about the grass dying and the ground eroding. The grass at the bottom of a slide will hold up as well as the grass everywhere else on the playground.

Another benefit of synthetic grass playgrounds is that they’re weatherproof. You don’t have to worry about the grass being damaged by use, but you also don’t have to worry about the weather conditions. No matter how dry the weather becomes, the grass won’t dry out and turn brown which also leads to erosion and bare patches that become mud in wet weather. Synthetic grass playgrounds stay green and full through all weather conditions.

And since children will be playing on the surface, artificial grass playgrounds are safe. The materials used in the grass are non-toxic, and perfectly safe for children to play on. In fact, in many cases artificial grass playgrounds can offer more safety and protection than regular grass playgrounds.

Artificial grass is put down on top of a finely crushed layer of rock, which is typically on top of a more coarsely crushed layer. In playground installations, a rubbery layer can be put on top of both of those to give the ground more cushioning and make it a softer surface for children to play, and fall, on. This can result in fewer injuries on the playground due to falls.

The non-toxic materials in synthetic grass playgrounds are safe for pets, too. The grass drains well and the ground beneath is smoothed before it’s put down, so there won’t be puddles and low spots that fill with water. Artificial grass playgrounds are a smart, safe solution for low-maintenance beauty and durability
